New Horizons International Competition

NEW HORIZONS International Competition – innovative, author driven feature films, creative documentary, experimental and animated films.

New Horizons International Competition consists of avant-garde, often controversial original Polish premieres made by authors searching for new means of expression. The selected titles, chosen from among hundreds of films by an international team of programmers, will compete for the Grand Prix, the FIPRESCI Award and the Audience Award.

Eligible for the New Horizons International Competition are:

  • films over 60 minutes
  • films that have never been presented in Poland at any public screenings

Awards:

  • Grand Prix and 20,000 Euro in cashfor the director of the winning film selected by an international jury.|
    The winning film is guaranteed distribution in Poland.
  • Audience Award – the winner is selected  by the audience.
    The winning film is guaranteed distribution in Poland.
  • The prize of the International Critics (FIPRESCI PRIZE)
    The winning film is guaranteed  distribution in Poland.

This year’s selection includes, among others, H., a new film from a filmmaking duo Rania Attieh and Daniel Garcia. Enthusiastically received at Venice Film Festival, this deconstruction of a classical Greek tragedy combines a mysterious thriller with elements of science fiction. Another film in the competition is the Tiger Award winner at Rotterdam IFF, Videophilia (and Other Viral Syndromes) (Videofilia y otros sindromes virales), by a Peruvian director Juan Daniel F. Molero, who used new media to create this visual experiment taking the viewers for a psychedelic trip in the company of young and troubled representatives of a society addicted to the Internet.
